BIOGRAPHY

Tobias Pelkner studied with Alfred Rinderspacher at the Mannheim State University of Music and Performing Arts and with Klaus Thunemann at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. In 1992 he won 1st prize at the German Music Competition with the Diaphonia Quintet, which was followed by numerous tours, including to Spain, England, Ireland and the Ukraine, as well as radio recordings and appearances at renowned festivals. From 1995 to 2009 he was 1st solo bassoonist of the Stuttgart State Opera and also guest solo bassoonist with numerous major German symphony orchestras, including the Munich Philharmonic and the SWR Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with numerous opera orchestras, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Hamburg State Opera and the Semper Opera in Dresden. In 2007, after many years of private teaching, he was appointed professor of bassoon at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Since 2008 Tobias Pelkner is professor at the Detmold University of Music.
