Programme of the ZeitGenuss Festival
ZeitGenuss - the name was thought up by Wolfgang Rihm. Every year, the festival for music of our time in Karlsruhe is dedicated to one composer, combined with the task of curating the entire programme. The ninth edition of ZeitGenuss is designed by Rebecca Saunders: Works by her, by composers she particularly appreciates and by students of the composition classes of Wolfgang Rihm and Markus Hechtle will be heard at various venues in the city.
The Karlsruhe University of Music and the City of Karlsruhe are jointly sponsoring the festival. The performers are the Ensemble Modern with soprano Sarah Maria Sun, the Trio Accanto with saxophone, piano and percussion, the percussionists Leonie Klein and Christian Dierstein, the Aleph Guitar Quartet, the Ensemble TEMA and the Christuskirche Chamber Choir. In addition, in the context of "Nachtklänge" at the Badisches Staatstheater Rebecca Saunders' a visible trace for eleven soloists will be performed.
The musical programme will be complemented by a film show with works by Derek Jarman, Sara Glojnaric and Samuel Beckett, a panel discussion in which Rebecca Saunders will lead a discourse with students of the composition classes Wolfgang Rihm and Markus Hechtle and the installation Myriad by Rebecca Saunders and Martin Rein-Cano/ TOPOTEK 1 with 2,464 music boxes, which will be experienced at the ZKM.
