Attention new!
Dear students, we would like to make our examination office more environmentally friendly and try to reduce the use of paper and printer cartridges. Therefore, we ask you to send your exam registrations exclusively by e-mail to pruefungsanmeldung@hfm.eu.

 

Study affairs and procedures

Please remember to respect deadlines, register for each semester and module, lesson and exam throughout the course.

Practical information is summarized as follows:

Change of address

Any change of address must be reported immediately to the Student Office and the relevant Residents‘ Registration Office. Changes in phone numbers and email addresses must also be promptly reported to the Student Office.

Leave of absence

In accordance with § 23 of the matriculation statutes, a suspension from studies can be granted for important reasons. As a rule, the period of leave of absence should not exceed two semesters (§ 61 LHG). A suspension is independent of re-registration. The application for leave of absence should be submitted before or during the re-registration period, but at the latest before the start of the semester – especially in the case of intended study abroad or practical work. The „Antrag auf Beurlaubung“ is available at the Student Office and can be downloaded from this website.

Certificate of Advancend Studies (CAS)

This opportunity only applies to graduates of the master's degree program at the University of Music Karlsruhe.

An informal application must be made

  • for the winter semester, until June 15
  • for the summer semester, until January 15

ECTS points (bachelor’s degree / master’s degree)

According to exam regulations for the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, section 4, paragraph 5, each student must demonstrate a minimum ECTS score of 50 points by the end of the second semester in order to continue studies. In addition, bachelor of arts program students must demonstrate a score of at least 110 ECTS points by the end of the fourth semester and at least 170 by the end of the sixth semester.

School Music students should submit their current scores, with no minimum.

For online registration to be activated, the Registrar's Office requires an up-to-date printout of student ECTS account / transcript. This may be obtained from the Study Services Office by presenting a transcript with all required signatures.

Withdrawal

Students who have finished their studies according to academic regulations or who wish to leave the university at the end of a semester must withdraw by the indicated deadline.

Withdrawal forms are available at the Registrar's Office or may be downloaded on this webpage.

Students who do not register for the new semester on time or have not met the deadlines listed in the university's enrollment charter are expelled ex officio and thereby deleted from the list of students.

Examinations

Participation in examinations is only possible after prior written registration. Forms for registration are available at the Examinations Office and can be downloaded from this page. The completed form can be sent by post or by e-mail (PDF document). It is not necessary to hand it in personally at the Examinations Office.

Registration deadline

  • for the winter semester by 15 November
  • for the summer semester by 15 May
  • for the soloist exam/concert exam is 31 October 2023

Enrollment

According to paragraph § 22 of the enrollment statutes of the University of Music Karlsruhe, enrolled students, including those on leave, who wish to continue their studies the following semester must register within a specified period announced by notice in the semester manual, on the homepage at this link.

Certain students will require a statement from their ECTS account for reregistration. They will receive this at the Study Services Office, provided they have submitted a transcript with all required signatures (see Transcript and ECTS points).

This pertains to the following students:

  • Bachelor of arts School Music students seeking to register for semester 3, 5, or 7.
  • Master of arts School Music students seeking to register for semester 3.
  • Bachelor of arts students (except in Musicology / Music Informatics and Music Journalism) seeking to register for semester 3, 5, 7, or - if extended - 9.
  • Master of arts students (except in Musicology/ Music Informatics and Music Journalism) seeking to register for semester 3 or - if extended - 5.

If a student fails to follow up within the stated limits or does not provide all necessary documents by the deadline, an extension may be granted upon request. An administrative fee of € 40 is payable if a grace period or late confirmation is needed.

Any planned leave of absence, change of instructor or related matter must be submitted to the Examinations Office/ Rectorate with a separate application for approval. Applications for change of instructor are made informally; leave of absence forms are available from the Registrar's Office and may be downloaded from this webpage.

Transcript

The transcript is valid for the entire time of study at the University of Music Karlsruhe as proof of enrollment. The document must be kept and maintained with care. All entries must be kept legible.

Students should enter their names, studies, and subjects for each semester as well as major, courses, and current classes, independently for each semester (double page format). Lessons with major subject instructors and all other lectures and academic events attended must be confirmed by the respective lecturers.
