Knowledge of the German language

Applicants from non-German-speaking countries must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the German language, unless otherwise specified in the addendum to the enrollment charter.

When registering for the entrance exam it is necessary to provide general proof of German language skills, such as participation in a course where the instructional language was German.

The following rules apply to enrollment:

Bachelors Degree Instrumental Areas, Including Music Theater Director:

  • Students must submit a German B1 certificate according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for enrollment or, at the latest, by the end of the first semester, or be removed from the register.
  • Students must submit a German B2 or TestDaF 3 / TDN 3 certificate according to the CEFR by the end of the second semester or be removed from the register.
     

Master’s Degree Instrumental Areas Including Music Theater Director:

  • Students must submit a German B1 certificate according to the CEFR to register.
  • Students must submit a German B2 or TestDaF 3 / TDN 3 certificate according to the CEFR at the latest by the end of the first semester, or be removed from the register.
     

Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree / Soloist or Concert Exam Vocal Area:

  • Students must submit a German B2 or TestDaF 3 / TDN 3 certificate according to the CEFR to enroll or, at the latest, by the end of the first semester or be removed from the register. If the B2 certificate is unavailable at the time of enrollment, enrollment may only occur upon presentation of the German B1 certificate.
